Camp beds

First of all, check the dimensions you need to sleep comfortably. If you toss and turn in bed, opt for a slightly wider one. You also need to know how much weight the bed can support, and whether it is easy to fold or take apart. The weight of the camp bed itself is also important.

There are several types of camp bed, so be sure to take a look at the manual before making your decision. Most camp beds can be set up as follows:

1.     Unfold the bed and lay it on the floor with the cloth facing the ground.

2.     Fold out the legs and turn the bed over. Make sure the bed is stable.

3.     Make sure the canvas is stretched over the frame. Some models require you to slide a tube into the fabric at the head and foot ends to stretch the fabric.

Tip: set up your camp bed at home before you set off on your travels, you will then know for sure how it should be done.

The weight of a standard camp bed varies between 6 kg and 10 kg.

If you use your camp bed in the summer, you only need to put your sleeping bag (and maybe a pillow) on it to sleep comfortably. If you use the camp bed during the winter, put an insulating sleeping mat on it to provide extra insulation between yourself and the cold air circulating under the bed.

• Clean the cover of your camp bed with a damp cloth before putting it away. Remove any greasy stains with soap and warm water. Clean coffee or soda stains with warm water first, then use cold water.
• To prevent mould, always ensure your camp bed is thoroughly dried before putting it away.
